Biography
AIdo Famà was born in Trieste on 19th September 1939 and passed away on 16th November 2021.
Of Dalmatian and Sicilian origins, he started painting in the second half of the 1950s.
Self-taught in painting, he was a student of Carlo Pacifico for engraving.
From 1978 to 1980, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Autonomous Union of Trieste Artists. In 1982, he founded the "Gruppo 5" with Claudio Moretti, Claudio Sivini, Ennio Steidler, and Sergio Stocca with the purpose of exploring new hypotheses for abstract painting and graphics.
This was a research that the artist pursued for more than 50 years: a rigorous and meditative painting practice, interwoven with controlled chromatic contrasts and materic inserts obtained with the same impasto of colour, engraved and marked as if it were an ancient graffiti. During those years, he also dedicated himself to stone sculpture.
From 1997 until 2009, he was a member of the C.F.A.P. (“Centro Friulano Arti Plastiche”, an association that deals with the promotion of the visual arts of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region and is based in Udine) as a representative of the artists from Trieste.
He was also on the Board of Directors of the “Istituto Giuliano di Storia, Cultura e Documentazione” in Trieste.
In 2014-2015, he went back to sculpture and experimented with a new method using 3D printing technology. From the sketch of the work, he used to create a scale model that was exported with CAD software in "stl" format for being first printed in 3D and then painted with acrylic colours.

Aldo Famà wurde am 19. September 1939 in Triest geboren und starb am 16. November 2021. Er war dalmatinischer und sizilianischer Herkunft und begann in der zweiten Hälfte der 1950er Jahre zu malen. Famà war Autodidakt in der Malerei und Schüler von Carlo Pacifico in der Gravur. In den zwei Jahren von 1978 bis 1980 war er Mitglied des Vorstands der Autonomen Vereinigung der Triester Künstler*innen. 1982 gründete Famà zusammen mit Claudio Moretti, Claudio Sivini, Ennio Steidler und Sergio Stocca die “Gruppe 5” mit dem Ziel, neue Untersuchungshypothesen im Bereich der abstrakten Malerei und Grafik zu erforschen. Eine Forschung, die der Künstler mehr als 50 Jahre lang verfolgte: eine strenge und meditative Bildpraxis, verwoben mit kontrollierten Farbkontrasten und Materialeinsätzen, die mit demselben Farbimpasto erzielt wurden, eingraviert und markiert, als handele es sich um ein antikes Graffito. In diesen Jahren widmete Famà sich auch der Steinbildhauerei. Von 1997 bis 2009 war er Mitglied des Friaulischen Zentrums für plastische Kunst in Udine, das Künstler*innen aus Triest vertritt. Außerdem war der Künstler Mitglied des Vorstands des Julianischen Instituts für Geschichte, Kultur und Dokumentation in Triest. In den Jahren 2014-2015 kehrte Famà zur Bildhauerei zurück und experimentierte mit einem neuen Weg, indem er die 3D-Drucktechnologie einsetzte. Von der Skizze des Werks fertigte er ein maßstabsgetreues Modell an, das mit dem damaligen CAD-Programm in das “stl”-Format für den 3D-Druck überführt wurde, den der Künstler dann mit Acrylfarben bemalte.
